FRIDAY 2nd DECEMBER

OK, ker-boom, before anything else, see if you can find a copy of Patrick Kavanagh's 'Advent', somewhere on the web. It's a 'Marmite' poem for this time of year.  Something about Adam and Eve, childhood and innocence, and something about the politics and faiths of Ireland:

If you don't want to give your brain a work-out, skip it for now and come back later...Meanwhile here's the latest news...

Two posts today, so please see the one which follows this as well...

Today's the last day of 'Experience Christmas' as Headlands Primary School visit the church, after which Sue Kirby and her team will probably retire to darkened rooms for a nice long lie-down. Thanks to all who took part in a programme which will have seen hundreds of children come through the doors of the church.

'The bells of waiting Advent ring...'  We realise we've missed out a very important group of people who can be found in St. Peter's on many Thursday evenings, and that's our bell-ringers. So here's a shout-out to them for making our Christmas services more, well...Christmassy...again this year. If you think bell-ringing could be your thing, contact Graham Baker on 01604 786714. Did you know most of our bells were cast in the 1680's?  Extraordinary.

And tonight, the choir will be rehearsing from 19.00 for the services this Sunday, including the Candlelit service at 18.00 that day. Think that you could never be a member of the choir? Go and talk to Clare Pearce and she'll tell you why really, you could.

Advent Soup. Need we say more? Tomorrow at 12.00. Church hall.

As of this morning 450 hits on this blog so far. Wow! Please keep following folks. Another way of staying God-centred during the hurly-burly.

And to finish...here's today's picture from our St. Peter's Advent Calendar

A gentle reminder to get writing your Christmas cards. This is the sign above 'Santa's Post Office' near Rovaniemi, Finland, just inside the Arctic Circle. If you think our days are short, Santa and his herd will be barely seeing the sun at all just now...
